Our sports program, is a logical next component to our theater program as a whole. The benefits of physical well being we feel need not even be discussed. Medical aspects of this are so clear, that perhaps the best evidence of this is the availability and success of so many physical facilites in our fair city. No competent doctor and no competent opinion would ever suggest that physical education and involvement is anything other than beneficial. It is both a preventative measure and a healing process in itself. No program that seriously considers helping anyone with any kind of social ill would be completely if it were not to include a directly physical component.
With this as a background, we have designed a sports program to do just as it says. The sport we have chosen is soccer, both for it’s worldwide appeal and familiarity as well as it’s most basic element of exercise and relative ease of beginner skill. In this program, we envision having four teams, East, West, North and South. During winter months, the sport will be played indoors, with facilities provided by different municipalities. During the spring and into the summer months, the sport will be played outdoors with the facilites that are available throughout the city. We will have volunteer coaching to ensure that the game is played properly as well as to ensure that basic skills relevant to the game are taught. We believe that any exercise without proper assistance and training can damage just as much as it can help. As such, we will provide all the gear and training necessary to make sure that our recruits into this program are taken care of fully. The goal for this program is to have our teams compete with other cities in Ontario where similar programs are currently being run. The intangibles of this activity are the ability to co interact and therefore network with other individuals who find themselves in a similar predicament. |
